The journey of parenting children who have had adverse experiences does not end with adoption. It is a life long process that requires a lot of ongoing support! The Adoptive Parent Book Group is designed to provide parents with a community of support in a safe, nurturing environment. In this virtual space, parents can explore ways to continue their journey of connected parenting while learning new strategies and connecting with other adoptive parents. The group is facilitated by Susan Gravette, LMFT who is a Trust-Based Relational Intervention® Practitioner. Susan is also an adoptive mom, an Empowered to Connect Parent Trainer, and well-versed in supporting families in the process of parenting children who have experienced early adversity.
This year the group will read The Connected Parent - Real Life Strategies for Building Trust and Attachment by Dr. Karyn Purvis and Lisa Qualls. Each meeting will focus on one chapter in the book along with questions for discussion and opportunity for sharing and support. The group meets once a month virtually and provides participants with a space to expand on their understanding and implementation of the strategies used in the Trust-Based Relational Intervention® (TBRI®) model. Many adoptive parents find that they benefit from regular “doses” of TBRI® in a supportive community to help them stay the course of connected parenting. This group provides that space.
